POLICE SEARCH IN HARBOUR FOR MURDER WEAPON
WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.).— The police today began a search of Wellington harbour, between . the Railway and Glasgow wharves, for the galvanised steel weapon believed to have caused the death of a 54-year-old nightwatchman, Frederick Andrew Stade, at the Wellington railway station in the early hours oi Thursday morning. Electric magnets are being US£ M from the launch Lady- Elizabeth, which is manned by two detectives and two launchmen. The search is taking place only a short distance from the wharf frontage. The weapon sought is believed, to be about the length of a walkingA short piece of steel, thought to be the handle of a T-shaped weapon, was found beneath Stake’s body. It has been reported to the police that about 40 minutes before the discovery of the body a man was seen in a city cafe'carrying a steel turnkey, which was T-shaped and about two feet three inches long. A further identification parade will be held by the police.
