Damaged Flying-boat Is Beached At New Hebrides
SUVA, August 13 (Rec. 2 p.m.).—The R.N.Z.A.F. Catalina which- was badly damaged when it hit an unsuspected reef at Villa, in the New Hebrides, on August 9 was floated off with the tide and beached by the aircrew yesterday. „ The flying-boat left Suva on August 8 ±oi Villa and Honiara with 10 passengers, including the Resident Commissioner for the Bntisn Solomon Islands Protectorate, Mr H. <-r. Gregory Smith. The passengers and crew were uninjured. , . .. The Catalina has two big holes torn m the airframe below the pilots’ seats. R.N.Z.A.r. technicians from Suva will make temporary repairs and, if passed airworthy, the damaged plane will fly to Suva.
