COAST MINERS HAVING TALKS WITH HUNTLY MEN

A. party of Grey district and Buller miners’ union representatives have gone to Huntly to discuss union affairs.

The main subject on which they hope to address the Huntly miners is the question of affiliation with the Federation of Labour or the Trade Union Congress, and the effect of this issue on the unity of the miners’ own national organisation. Members of the party are Messrs F. Connew and T. Cunniffe (Buller), and R. H. Mitchell (Greymouth), and they were joined in the north by Mr A. McGougan (Blackball). An Auckland message says that negotiations between the national council of the Miners’ Union and the directors of Pukemiro Collieries, Ltd, are continuing at intervals. The discussions were to resume at 3.30 today.

The negotiators are seeking a settlement of the Waikato miners’ strike, which began over the dismissal of a trucker.
