MEETING OF NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN
A resolution from Wellington asking branches to agree that the attention of the Government be drawn to the fact that the N.C.W. did not favour capital punishment, caused considerable discussion at the monthly meeting of the Greymouth branch of the National Council of Women.
Members expressed widely differing opinions on the subject, but it was finally decided that, whatever the personal view of members, the present policy of the council, which had been democratically arrived at and which could only be altered by a majority vote of conference, should be carried out, and the resolution was therefore approved. Delegates appointed to attend the conference were Miss C. Mihehan, president, and Mesdames M. Nelson, treasurer, R. Jones, secretary, and M. G. Kelly. Four other members indicated that they would be/available as ■observers.
Some discussion took place as to the possibility of having a Kindergarten established in Greymouth. It was finally decided that the secretary make inquiries, but that it should be made clear that; while the branch is anxious to do everything in its power to encourage this project,, it is unable to commit itself financially in any way.
