Bowls Club Seeks Liquor Charter
WHANGAREI, This Day CP.A.). —The Kensington Bowling Club, with a membership of 231, the fifth largest in New Zealand, last night asked the Licensing Commission to grant it a charter for the sale of liquor. Mr A. M. Goulding, chairman of the Commission, said that, as this was the first application of this nature that the commission had received from a bowling club, it would have to be satisfied on the following points:—ls the club a social as well as a bowling club? If a town plan is adopted, has the commission power to grant a charter in a special residential -area? What is the club’s attitude towards visitors and women, to whom club facilities may be provided? Mr Goulding suggested that the club should consult the Bowling Association about a charter.
