PLAN TO PUBLISH GAMES HISTORY TO BE ABANDONED
AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.).— Because of the “ungracious” attitude of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association executive in Wellington, the Empire Games (N.Z.) Company in Auckland will abandon its plan to publish a history of the 1950 Games. The Mayor of Auckland, Sir John Allum, the company’s chairman of directors, commenting on a Press Association message from Wellington, said this today. There were, he stated, two primary reasons for the financial success of the Games last February:—(l) “The capacity and efficiency of the organising committee under the chairmanship of Mr Ci Rex Moore;” (2) “the very generous response of the Auck- ® land public, both in giving a financial guarantee and so strongly sup- • porting the Games.” The organising committee, he said, believed it had a duty to the public to produce a permanent record of the Games, which should be made available to all who desired it. The directors of the company had entirely concurred. “However,” the Mayor added, “in view of the ungracious remarks made in Wellington it seems to me the best thing is to drop the whole matter and leave it'to the public to form its own judgment.”
