Outbreak Of Violence In Philippines
MANILA, March 30.—A new wave of violence is reported in Central Luzon, north and south of Manila. Reports indicate that groups of “dissidents,” some said to be 1000 strong, have attacked, looted and set fire to many -townships over a wide area.
Twenty persons are reported to have been killed and 50 injured. The Manila newspapers state that the outbreaks are in connection with the observance of the eighth anniversary of the Hukbalahap Movement,, which was founded in 1942 to fight the Japanese. The Hukbalahaps re.fused to lay ' down their arms after the termination of the Japanese war and they continued fighting for “social justice and agrarian reform.”
