FOR FARMERS Further Rise In Ewe Prices At Addington Market

CHRISTCHURCH, ' This Day (O.C.)Another substantial yarding of store sheep came forwad at Addington yesterday, and again included a large number of lines of ewes which are normally sold at the fairs. Buying was quite as good as at any ume this season for the best, and prices for secondary sorts showed a further rise. Fat cattle were again in heavy supply. Prices for the best beef were back £1 and more, and for secondary descriptions up to £2 a head. Fat sheep sold about at last week’s rates, and fat lambs, which were forward in small numbers, were a little dearer. STORE SHEEP—The best of the ewe lambs made to 41s. Best wether lambs made to 37s 6d, good 25s to 29s 6d, and others down to 19s. The twotooths made up a most attractive entry. The best made up to 66s 6d, good from 44s to 535, and others from 32s to 425. The outstanding sale of the day was that of a line of four and six-tooth Marlborough halfbreds of excellent type, which made 625, the highest price ever paid at Addington for store sheep of that age. The best four-year ewes made from 40s 6d to 465, and good made from 32s to 40s. The best of the sound-mouth ewes made 28s to 395, medium 23s to 27s 6d, and others down to 10s. FAT LAMBS.—The bulk of the yarding again comprised lambs of the lighter sort, but with the smaller entry these sold well, and the drop of one to two shillings was fully recovered. The pick of the entry made from 47s to 57s 7d, good from 41s to 465, and other sorts from 30s to 40s. West Coast sales included: J. Brown (Tote ra Flat), 69 at 34s 7d to 42s 7d. FAT SHEEP. —Values for ewes were about firm with lighter sorts selling slightly better. Wethers were firm at the outset, and later were dearer by one to two shillings. Values were: Extra prime wethers, to 61s Id. Prime heavy wethers, from 40s 6d to 47s 6d. Prime medium-weight wethers, from 35s to 40s. Ordinary and light wethers 31s to 345. Extra prime ewes, to 43s Id. Prime ewes, 29s to 325. Prime med-ium-weight ewes, 25s to 28s. Oidinaiy and light ewes, 17s to 245. West Coast sales included: J. Brown (Totara Flat). 3 wethers at 44s Id, 3 ewes at 35s Id. , x , PAT CATTLE, —Good steers and heifers were from 20s to 25s cheaper, while the lighter sorts in each of these categories were down by up to 40s. The best of the cows showed a decline of from 30s to 40s, while there was little or no inquiry for light cows which were very hard to sell. Best beef' made 70s to 75s per 1001 b, good 52s 6d to 57s 6d, medium to aOs; best cow to 52s 6d, and secondary cow 36s 6d to 42s 6d. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to 232 7s Cd. Prime large runners , made to £l5 8s 6d. others £8 6s to £8 18s Gd; best suckers. £6 3s 6d to £8 6s; medium suckers. £4 8s 6d to £6 is: large calves, 44s to 60s: medium calves, 32s to 435; and rough, down to 18s. STORE CATTLE.—West Coast and , southern competition helped to make the sale. Among the quotable lines were 10 three-year Aberdeen Angus! steers at £l7 6s, 11 of the same age I and breeding* at £l4 18s 6d, 9 three- | year Shorthorn steers at £lB 8s 6d. 7 three-year Aberdeen Angus steers at £lB 6s, 5 three-year Shorthorn steers at £l5 13s 6d. 13 two and a half-year Shorthorn steers at £l3 8s 6d. 11 backward two and a half-year Aberdeen Angus steers at £lO 8s Gd. 10 twoyear Aberdeen Angus steers at £l3 6s. 13 three-year Aberdeen Angus station heifers at £l2 6s, 12 three-year Hereford heifers at £lO 13s-6d, 8 18-months backward Aberdeen Angus heifers at £5 6s and 8 Hereford at £7 18s 6d.

DAIRY CATTLE.—The sale was excellent, with prices higher. A lot of eight registered Friesian heifers. 15 to 18 months old, made from 20gns to 35c*ns. Best second, third, and fourth calvers made from £l6 to £2l, with odd sales up to £3B 10s, medium made £ll 10s to £l5 10s, and aged and inferior from £8 to £ll. The best heifers made to £36, with good from £lB to £24, and others £lO 10s to £l7. FAT PlGS—Choppers were in much smaller supply, but values showed very little change. Baconers were also forwarded in much smaller numbers and the sale was an excellent one. Values were: —Light porkers, £4 2s 6d to £4 14s 6d; medium porkers, £4 19s 6d to £5 12s 6d; heavy porkers, £5 17s 6d to £6 4s 6d. Average price per lb, Is to Is 3d. Choppers, £5 8s 6d to £9 8s 6d; light baconers. £6 9s 6d to £6 19s 6d; medium baconers £7 7s 6d to £7 14s 6d; heavy baconers £7 17s 6d to £8 9s 6d. Average price per lb lid to Is. STORE PlGS.—Values fully recoverd ths easing of three to four shillings a head and all classes met steady competition throughout. Values were: — Small weaners 30s to 355; best weaners, 36s to 425; slips, 45s to 50s; small steres, 54s to 625; medium stores, 65s to 70s; large stores, 71s to 755.
