THE ‘FLYING WING’ EXPLODES: TEST PILOT KILLED

LONDON, February 15 (Rec. 11 a.m.). —A D.H. 108 jet tailless fighter, known as the “Flying Wing,” blew up in mid-air when on high-speed test trials today. The R.A.F. pilot was killed. His body was found in a wood near where the plane exploded. Debris of the plane was found at places 10 miles apart. The plane was one of two experimental machines owned by the Ministry of Supply. The other one also exploded in mid-air—over the Thames estuary last September, when the famous test pilot, Geoffrey de Havilland, was killed.
