Motor-cycles Converted During Games Week

AUCKLAND, This Day . (P.A.).— In the Empire Games week several motor cycles were removed from outside Eden Park, the Olympic pool and Western Springs stadium and were later found abandoned. Today, Garth Bryden Melies, aged 20, seaman, was charged but the case was not heard. Defending counsel was granted a remand so that Melies could be medically examined. He said Melies had had a severe illness which should be investigated. The police said that Melies, in a statement, admitted converting various motor cycles and riding them about the city. Detective-Sergeant T. Holmes said Melies was released from Borstal in 1947 and had been at sea most of the time since.
