EGYPT’S SUPPORT FOR REPUBLICAN REGIME IN SYRIA
■ DAMASCUS, December 28 (Rec 1.300 p.m.).—King Farouk of Egypt has sent assurances to Colonel Abid Chichakli, who led Syria’s coup d’etat on December 19, that Egypt will support his republican regime in Syria. Unconfirmed reports say that Colonel Chichakli’s coup, which was Syria’s third in nine months, is believed to have been caused by the Syrian Army’s dislike of the projected Syrian-Iraqi union. . It is learned in official circles that the Saudi Arabian Government has also decided to back Colonel Chichakli.
