The Left-wing “Bright Boys”: Growing Power
AUCKLAND, This Day (0.C.).—“1t can be noted that the people of New Zealand are spending much time today picking the National Party Cabinet,” said Mr W. S. Goosman, National candidate for Piako, in an address at Balmoral. “It might be. well if they also considered picking the Cabinet we will have if the Labour Party goes back.” The old section of the Labour Party could not remain much longer and no one would deny that the left-wing of the party was “champing at the bit” to take over control, aaid Mr Goosman. He named 18 Labour Party- members, headed by Mr McLagan, whom he described as the “bright boys” of the left-wing. There was no doubt of their strength. If the Labour Party was returned to office they would dictate the power. The possibility of the extremists taking com ( - niand* in New Zealand loomed close ahead and the pattern would follow that of other countries where Socialists paved the way for Communism.
