LAND SALES ACT IS PREVENTING TRADE EXPANSION, IS CLAIM
DUNEDIN, November 8 (P.A.).— “When legislation blocks commercial expansion in this fashion it surely goes far beyond what is sensible and reasonable,” said Mr J. M. Paterson, chairman of directors of D.1.C., Ltd,, when telling shareholders at the annual meeting this afternoon that the Land. Valuation Committee had not approved the contract price for a Hamilton property purchase. The company had contracted to buy the property so that it could expand its business to Hamilton, but the price had been reduced to a figure at which the vendor was very understandably not willing to complete the deal. “The D.I.C. is deprived of what we felt sure would have been a profitable expansion of our business and Hamilton loses a worthwhile addition to its commercial life,” said Mr Paterson.
