Meat Going To Waste

LONDON, Sept. 26 (Rec 10 a.m.).—The National Federation of Meat Traders today passed a resolution instructing its executive to take early action to combat nationalisation.

In his presidential address: Mr J. E. Baldwin said that the meat, which filled Britain’s cold stores and even some of her refrigerator ships almost to capacity, was deteriorating in quality and would probably be issued for consumption when it was “store stained,” frost marked or in bad condition. Meanwhile the British people were restricted to a ration “as small as any they had known.” The Evening News says that hundreds of sheep carcases were being condemned by the food inspectors at the Smithfield market today. , , , the shipment imported by the Food Ministry arrived in England from Holland on September 23. Market employees clairned that the carcases had to be held over the week-end. They should have been put in cold store.
