Notifiable Diseases Notifiable diseases reported in Canterbury last week were:, scarlet fever, two cases; tuberculosis, four; erysipelas, one; undulant fever, one. One case of scarlet fever, and one of tuberculosis were reported from the West Coast. Truck Overturns A spectacular motor accident occurred on the Greymouth-Hokitika highway on Saturday when a motortruck skidded in loose gravel at a corner north of Arahura. The truck, ’ which carried 5 number of passengers planning to join a bus leaving for Nelson, completely overturned, but, except for slight shock, none of the passengers was injured. The truck was extensively damaged, and was unable to continue the journey. Hokitika Project A queen carnival is being organised in Hokitika for the purpose of financing the construction of a large gymnasium in the town. The project, which is sponsored by the Hokitika Sports Council, comprising representatives of all sports bodies, envisages the laying-out of a sports ground, ana the construction of an indoor sports centre, with full dressing room facilities, and incorporating a grandstand. Four queens, representing hockey, cricket, football and basketball organisations are to be selected. The profits from the fireworks display to be staged at Hokitika on New Year’s Eve will be allocated to the council, which is seeking similar contributions. Mr J.
