Inquest Into Death Of Jockey
A verdict that Murray George Ridgway, an apprentice jockey, of Otaki, died at the Masterton Hospital on September 10 from head injuries received accidentally during the running of a race at the Carterton meeting when his mount collapsed and died and rolled on him was returned by the Coroner (Mr L. J. Taylor) at Masterton yesterday. The Coroner held that no blame was attachable to anyone.—(P.A.) Topweight’s Successes Horses carrying- No. 1 saddle cloth had the best record in Melbourne and Sydney during the 1948-49 season. In Melbourne they won 80 races, deadheated for first once, were second 51 times and third 43 times. In Sydney their record was 69 wins, 44 seconds and 41 thirds.
