Nations’ Leaders To Meet

Reuter’s Paris correspondent says that Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the Indian Ambassador to Russia, called today for a meeting of six heads of States—two from the East, two from Europe, and Mr Truman and Mr Stalin. The purpose of the meeting would not be to achieve political results but to break through “the blinding mist of misunderstanding.” Three hundred delegates attending the fourth general conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation applauded Dr Radhakrishnan’s plea.—London, September 20.

Slav Delegates Ignored The Jugoslav delegates at the opening today of the fourth regular session of the United Nations General Assembly cold-shouldered the other countries in the Soviet bloc. Mr Andrei Vyshinsky the Soviet Foreign Minister, was sitting in the delegates’ lounge with a group of Polish, Czech, White Russian, and Ukrainian delegates when Mr Edvard Kardelj, the Jugoslav Foreign Minister,’ entered with the Jugoslav Ambassador to the United States (Mr S N Kosanovic). Without even glancing at the group, the Jugoslavs marched bv with stony faces into the meeting hall Mr Vyshinsky glanced in their direction, and then said something to Mr Vladimir Clementis, the Czech Foreign Minister. Both shrugged their shoulders.—New York, September 20..
