New Magistrate Appointed

WELLINGTON, This Day (P.A.). —Mr Malcolm C. Astley, of Dargaville, has been appointed by the Governor-General to be a stipendiary magistrate and is expected to take up his duties on the bench in Auckland at the end of next month, said the Minister of Justice, Mr Mason, today. Mr Astley was born in Auckland. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1927 and as a barrister in 1933. He worked as a law clerk for Mr G. P. Finlay, now Mr Justice Finlay, iri Auckland, until 1927, when he joined a Dargaville legal firm, where he has practised ever since. He served overseas with the -2nd N.Z.E.F. and has been very active in the. interests of the returned soldiers. He is a-mem-ber of the Dominion executive of, the N.Z.R.S.A,
