SWIMMING TITLE MEETING NOW TO BE HELD PRIOR TO GAMES
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day (P.A.) —The Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last evening rescinded an earlier decision to conduct the New Zealand championships after the British Empire Games and •. decided that both the Senior and Junior National Championships should be held as a single meeting in Auckland on December .31 and January 2 and 3 next; - The championships will be conducted as a council fixture by the Auckland Centre, Empire Games trials will be held, if necessary, immediately after the championships. .. December 21 was fixed as the date by which centres must , notify the council of any time trials made by aspirants for inclusions in the New Zealand team. - ' Two 'notable junior records were passed.,: One by T. Eagle for the 220 yards breaststroke was for a time of 2min. 57sec. The senior record for this event is 2min 58 sec. The other was the 220 yards freestyle in 2mm 18 4-5 sec by W. M. Amos and this also Bettered the Senior record, which stands at 2 min 20 2-5 sec. Both boys are Aucklahders. In addition Amos was granted junior records for the 880 yards freestyle in lOmin 51 4-ssec and the 100 yards backstroke inJB6sec.
