Malta And Britain Reuter’s Valetta correspondent says that Dr Paul Boffa, Malta’s Prime Minister, was given a vote of confidence m Parliament last night by 24 votes to seven Mr D. Mintoff, who lesigned from the Cabinet during the recent London talks on Malta’s economic problems, walked out of the House when the vote was taken. Labour sympathisers left with him. Dr Boffa had asked loi approval of liis action in withdrawing the “ultimatum” to Britain during the London talks. —London, September

European Unity The Rome correspondent of the Associated Press says that members of. parliament from 11 nations met in Venice today to strive for a “genuine United States of Europe. Complaining that the . recent European ..Consultative Assembly of Strasbourg did not go far enough, they demanded a federalisea Europe strong enough to stand alone between Russia and America. The delegates had come together for the third congress of the European Parliamentary Union. The West German Chancellor (Dr Konrad Adenauer) sent a message pledging the backing of the Bohn Government. The union, which was formed "two years ago in Switzerland, claims to be the most important of -.43.-/non-governmental organisations supporting European unity—London, September 20.
