Daylight Limited Expresses

The Railways Department proposed to run daylight limited expresses between Wellington and Auckland for a trial period during the Labour Day -week-end, said the acting-general manager (Mr E. H. Langford) yesterday. Ho expected that they would run from Auckland to Wellington on October 21 and October 24, and in the other direction on October 22 and October 25. The two northbound journeys have been planned to give good connections for passengers on the South Island limited expresses on the preceding days. The tentative timetable provided for departure from Auckland at 8.10 a.m. and arrival at Wellington at 10 p.m., and departure from ‘Wellington at 8 a.m. and arrival at Auckland at 9.55 p.m. These times showed a considerable reduction on the running times of daylight expresses before the war. These earlier expresses were withdrawn because of poor patronage. Hostesses would be provided on the daylight limited expresses, said Mr Langford. Special compartments and necessary facilities would enable them to care for elderly people and mothers with young children.— (P.A.)
