Chinese May Take Case Against Australian Minister
SYDNEY, This Ddy (Rec. 10 a.m.). —The Solicitor for the Chinese facing deportation may institute proceedings 1 against the Minister of Immigration, Mr A. A. Calwell, for' alleged contempt of court.
The solicitor, Mr F. E. O’Brien, said in Melbourne that three barristers would examine the statement by Mr Calwell and that he might then ask the court to consider action against Mr Calwell. Mr O’Brien added that the Minister had made statements derogatory to the Chinese whose cases were before the High Court. “There is one quality of our Minister of Immigration which you can never estimate—his boorishness,” comments the Sydney Daily Telegraph. “If he has to answer criticism, you can be sure he will out-do his last effort in vindictiveness.”
