NEW PLANS FOR GIRLS’ MARCHING

At the last national marching championships Wellington weather gave the girls a thorough drenching. The recent annual meeting of the national association has now agreed that a centre granted a championship should submit details of any indoor facilities in which some of the march ffian could be performed. . This does not cover the matter entirely, centres without halls still being eligible for championship fixtures, but is undoubtedly a wise step. . One speaker felt that it was unfair to declare a championship on an indoor performance, because a lot of centres had nowhere to practise. Mi’ E. A. Moseley, Hawke’s Bay, replied, that he could condense movements into the average-size hall. Teams could be given the size of the hall and could practise on a park or basketball court within an area marked by flags. He said he was speaking from practical experience and that there was nothing unfair about it. Another motion very much in the interests of the girls was eagerly adopted by the meeting. It was that girls should not be permitted to march in the rain and that a committee should-be appointed to decide whether or not to carry on in doubtful weather The girls were not to be asked, because, as one speaker said, they would always want to march.
