BOWLING EMPIRE GAMES: COAST CLUBS TO NOMINATE PLAYER

All clubs affiliated with the West Coast Bowling Centre are to be asked to nominate one player to represent the West Coast at the Empire Games at Auckland next year, according to a decision reached at the annual meeting of the centre at Greymouth earlier this week. The decision was made after correspondence) had been received from the New Zealand Bowling Council on the matter. The centre decided that the annual] West Coast tournament would be played on district greens under similar conditions to last season and that the tournament would commence on Friday, February 24, 1950. It was also decided that the centre arrange two one-day fours tournaments for leads and seconds.

The centre is to recommend to all clubs to play at least two inter-club matches during the season for the Kells’ Buttons and the Reynold’s Badges. Clubs are also to be asked that when choosing teams, they be selected as near to classification as possible. The New Zealand Council .wrote asking the centre’s opinion on the adopting of a universal blazer. The suggestion .was not supported and it was decided that players would wear their own club blazers.

The Dobson Club’s application for affiliation was accepted. Following the practice of previous seasons, the centre is to issue a booklet containing the fixtures for the coming season. The.centre is also to issue free of charge to all clubs a book on renovations, construction and care of bowling greens. Motions of sympathy with the families and relatives of Messrs I. Mossop, J.
