ALLEGED ASSAULT ON TAXI-DRIVER BY PASSENGER
AUCKLAND, This Day (P.A.).— A taxi-driver was hit on the head in his car and left in a dazed condition in Ponsonby about 8.30 last evening. The victim of the assault, Tui Desmond Hedlund, aged 31, picked up a fare from the rink in Ponsonby. The man told him to drive down Ponsonby terrace. Hedlund was struck on the head with a torch. Although dazed he drove the car towards a fence and sounded the horn. The assailant then fled in the darkness. Residents informed the police. This morning detectives arrested a suspect, who will appear in the Police Court tomorrow morning.
