METEORITE EXPLODES

MELBOURNE, This Day (Rec. 1 p.m.).—Residents of the Melbourne suburb of Balwyn reported last night seeing a ball of fire disintegrate in the air with a terrific explosion, after which the electric power supply in the suburbs of Camberwell, East Kew and Balwyn failed. Electricity Commission officers believe the exploding ball was a meteorite. Eye-witnesses say it exploded at less than 1000 ft. ‘
