BRILLIANT METEOR SEEN IN SKY OVER DUNEDIN

DUNEDIN, This Day (P.A.).—A brilliant meteor in the northern sky aboutt eight o’clock last night gave many Dunedin people cause to think that they had seen a new comet. The meteor was particularly bright with a blue head and a long, pinkish tail, and added a considerable amount of light to the dark sky. It was seen first in the east, beyond the Otago Peninsula, and flashed across the sky towards the west, the whole of the journey lasting only a few seconds. Estimates by competent observers suggest that the meteor was travelling at a speed of about 50 miles a second and at a height of about 60 miles.
