NO ROOM FOR MEAT IN BRITISH STORES: SHIPS HOLD CARGOES

LONDON, August 19 (Rec. 9.15 a.m.). —There is so much meat in dockside warehouses that supplies now coming into Britain 'are being stored on refrigerated ships and taken out to sea again, says the Evening Standard. The Ministry of Food stated today that the Shaw Savill Company’s Pakeha, which can hold 4500 tons of meat, has been taken over as a temporary store, and that it. would lie laden off the shore until there was room for meat in the warehouses. The Ministry explained that the reason for cold storage warehouses being full were that home killings had started earlier this year, partly owing to the drought. Imports had restarted from the Argentine and much of the meat arrived with bone in it and took up more space. The Ministry added that the meat ration had just been, increased, and further increases could not be forecast.
