LONDON. August ■ 16.—Middlesex consolidated its position as leader in the county cricket competition with a win over Worcestershire today. Results: Worcestershire: First innings, 160 (Sims six for 60) ; second innings, 264. Middlesex: First innings, 288 (Dewes 81; Jenkins five for 64); second innings, five for 137. Middlesex won by five wickets. . , Sussex: First innings, 184 (R. Smith five for 52); second innings, 338 (Cox 76). Essex: First innings, 433 (Dodds 89, Horsfall 95, Vigar 87); second innings, three for 142. Essex won by seven wickets.
Lancashire: First innings, 280; second innings, eight for 243 declared [Wharton 90.) Surrey: First- innings, 128 (Tattersall five for 25); second innings, 100 (Greenwood four for 33, Roberts four for 23). Lancashire won by 295 runs. Gloucestershire: First innings, 340 (Crapp 132, Wilson 73) ; second innings, eight for 180 declared. Glamorganshire: First innings, 170 (Cook seven for 64) ; second innings, three for 180. The match was drawn.
Hampshire: First innings, 219 (Walsh six for 91); second innings, seven for 358 declared (Bailey 78, McCorkell 73). Leicestershire: First innings, 145; second innings, 317 (Tompkin 77). Hampshire won by 115 runs. Noi thamptonshire: First innings, 351 (Brockes 163; Harris four for 43). Nottinghamshire: First innings, 161 (Garlick four for 34); second innings, 177 (Broderick six for 34). Northamptonshire won by an innings and 13 runs.
Somersetshire: First innings, nine for 400 declared (Walford 120); second innings, eight for-216 declared. Kent: First innings, 274 (Ames 146); Buse six for 62) ; second innings, 208 (Ames 72; Lawrence five for 72). Somersetshire won by 134 runs.
