POLICE STATION SITE: HOUSES TO BE SHIFTED
The first visible step in the construction of the new Greymouth Police Station will soon be taken. A contract for shifting the two houses standing on the site -at the corner- of Guinness and Tarapuhi streets to other sites has been let by the Ministry of Works. The contractor is Mr E. S. Butts. , • . , , Mr ; Butts is making an early start and his first job is the transferring of one of the houses to-a vacant section next to the police constable s residence at Cobden. Next, he will* move the other house to a section in Blaketown. \ t .Plans for the new building were completed some time ago and it is expected 'that as soon as the site has been cleared, the contractors, Messrs J. Calder, Ltd, of Christchurch, will' make a start on the erection of the building.’ The contractors are at present engaged on the new Hokitika Post Office. It has been stated by a principal of the firm that its facilities are adequate to cope with the two major works simultaneously.
