Ku Klux Klan Threat
James Montgomery, a 56-year 7 oid negro, who was released from prison last week, after serving 26 years lor rape which he did .not commit, has received a death threat, signed “K.K.K.” His attorney said that this threat was made in a letter received by Montgomery’s wife. Montgomery was released from prison last Wednesday by Federal Judge Michael Igoe, who called the original triala “sham,” and said: “The issue was not justice, but racial subjugation.”—New York, August 16.
U. S. Social Security The Wavs and Means Committee 01 the United States House of Representatives' today approved a new Social Security Bill which would make 11060,000 more persons eligible for old age pensions. The Bill would also increase the benefits by as .much as 8 per cent. The measure goes a long way towards meeting President Truman’s request for such legislation, buv omits one of Ills major recommendations: public aid for all needy persons. —Washington, August 15.
