ST JOHN’S CHURCH: DECISION TO ERECT NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL
Plans are being completed for the erection of a Sunday School to serve the south end of the town, and a building approximately 20ft by 24ft, with catering ’facilities .and cloak rooms,- at a contract price in the vicinity of £BOO will be constructed on the church’s Milton road section, stated the board of managers’ report to the 79th annual meeting of the St John’s Church congregation which was held last evening. There was an attendance of 61 members at the meeting and it was agreed to proceed with the erection of the new Sunday School. The session clerk, Mr J. A. Shannon, in presenting the session report, pointed out that the church had maintained a progressive standard, and at- the present time was in a strong position. All organisations had worked co-operatively towards that end.
The treasurer, Mr J. A. McAlister, presented the statement of receipts and expenditure, which showed an increase of revenue, and a general .improved position in regard to finances. The meeting unanimously agreed to change over to the “New Hymnary” and the Board of Management was empowered to purchase the books. Messrs A. Agnew and W. Waugh, retiring managers were re-elected, and the following new members were elected:—Messrs P. Daniels, W. Bone, R. Smith, W. T'ennent and D. J. Tucker.
Mr C. Gunn expressed the Congregation’s deep appreciation of the splendid work carried out by Mr and Mrs Campbell and family, with special reference to Miss Margaret Campbell’s services as organist. Mr Campbell again expressed his thanks to all.
At the close of the meeting, supper was provided.
