HONOUR FOR CAPTAIN OF BRITISH LINERS
LONDON, May 20 (Rec. 11.30 a.m.). —Captain C. N. Ford, 61-year-old master of the liner Queen Elizabeth, was presented with the United States Legion of Merit today for safely transporting nearly 200,000 American troops during the war. The citation was signed by President Truman and referred to the captain’s “exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services as master of the Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mary from August, 1942, to December, 1945.”
