CHRISTENING ON THE QUARTERDECK
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day.
The 16-months-old son of H.M.N.Z.S. Pukaki’s medical officer, Surgeon-Lieutenant D. A. Purdie. was christened on the quarterdeck of the frigate in Dunedin harbour yesterday, states a radio message from the Pukaki. It was the first christening aboard the Pukaki and is believed to be the first held on a naval ship at Dunedin. The boy was christened lan Stewart Purdie, the ceremony being conducted by Archdeacon W. A. Hamblett, of Dunedin. Those present included the Mayor of Dunedin, Sir Donald Cameron, and the ship’s captain, Lieutenant-Com-mander L. E. Herrick, D.S.C., R.N., and officers. Drs F. K. .Rennie and L. H. Scott were godfathers by proxy.
