COBDEN TOO GOOD FOR KOKATAHI

Though it fielded a strong forward pack, the newly-formed Kokatahi Club was no match for Cobden in the match plaved at Kokatahi in constant rain. W Amberger was the only back of note, and the former representative forward, R. Weiblitz, played second five-eighth, •outside Amberger, Cobden was impressive in its rucking tactics and gave the backs a major share of the ball, which the threequarters, in spite of the greasy conditions, turned to advantage scoring four of the five tries.

N. Parker (2), R. Wright, J. McKenae and T. Colville scored tries for Cobden, J. Lindbom converting two and Wright one, to make the final icore: Cobden 21, Kokatahi nil.

St Mary’s Forwards Outplayed Blaketown

Though the Blaketown forwards gave a good display, they were not as lively as the St Mary’s pack in the conditions at Hokitika, and the Hokitika team won ay six points to nil. Led by J. Henderson, the St Mary’s pack was quick to take advantage of my loose balls—and there were many in the greasy conditions prevailing during the game-—and their task was made easier by the inability of the Blaketown backs to handle cleanly. Blaketown was actually unlucky not to score on several occasions towards the close of play, but St Mary’s deserved its victory. G. Davidson scored the Hokitika’s team’s only try, the other points coming from a goal kicked from a penalty, by P. Nutting.
