been changed so as to gain a lower, and consequently safer, centre ol gravity. The roof was thus brought to only sft 3in above ground level. The seats ,have been placed between the front and rear axles, giving a smoother ride. The seats have been considerably widened, so that three large people may sit on each. The designers evolved a new springing system—“Hydra-Coil” springs ' in front replacing the traditional transverse springs, and the front axle. This system- is centred around aeroplane type shock-absorbers mounted ■within low-frequence coil springs. All-round visibility has been greatly increased, until now Ford drivers enjoy as much as 20 square feet of clear, safety glass. The luggage compartment at the rear contains 28 cubic feet of space, and is easily accessible.
A great improvement for the driver is the centralisation of controls, the instruments being constructed in a circular dial in front of the steering wheel. This “Flight Dash” is illuminated by “Black Light,” a war-time invention that, gives a safe non-glaring light. All doors hinge at the front and inside handles push up instead of down, to open the door. Both features combine to preclude accidental opening of the doors, while the car is moving. A special showing of the new car is now being* held at Greymouth Motors Ltd.
