Today, with the world gradually regaining its economic balance, the motor industry is forging'ahead with greater production and revolutionary improvements in design and method. While radical departures in design do not always meet with immediate approval, changes such as seen in the 1949 Ford V 8 leave no doubt about the success of this departure from the orthodox. With the Ford “FortyNiner,” the designers started from the ground and worked upwards—the name “Ford” on the bonnet and wheels being the only identification left to compare it with previous models.
