Mails For Britain
Surface mails for the United Kingdom, Eire, and Europe, except the Balkan States and Italy, will close at the Chief Post Office, Greymouth, at noon on Saturday, March 19, and at 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, March- 24. Notifiable Diseases
Six cases of scarlet fever were reported in the Canterbury-West Coast health district during the week ended yesterday. Three cases of tuberculosis, two of amoebiasis, and one of the undulant fever were also reported by the District Health Office of the Department of Health.
48 Hours In Queue To See Opera Weary but smiling, Miss Rona Wynne was one of the first into His Majesty’s Theatre, Auckland, last evening for the opera, “The Barber of Seville.” She had been waiting in the queue since 7 o’clock on Saturday evening. She is one of four girls who have been sharing the job of sleeping out all night to ensure good seats. Already thev have seen five operas. — (P.A.)
Cost Of Cathedral Bells
A gift of £lOO towards the cost of a peal of bells for St Peter’s Cathedral, Hamilton, has been promised by the board of management of the Jewish community in Canterbury, according to advice received by the organiser of the appeal (Dean C. W. Chandler). Only 11 days ago the /Auckland Jewish community made a gift of £lOO towards the cost of one of the eight bells to comprise the peal.— (P.A.)
