YACHTING POPEYE AND SALOME TO CONTEST FINAL OF CENTENNIAL CUP
Popeye (A. Kroening) and Salome (G-. Messenger), who are equal in points in the Centennial Cup series, the iinal race in which was sailed by the Greymouth Yachting Club on the Grey river yesterday, will sail off for the cup during the next series of races. At the conclusion of yesterday’s race, points won were as follows:—Popeye 199.9; Salome 199.9; Marilyn 156.6; Idle Hour 150; Lanoma 108.7; Venture 100.59; Listless 33.3; Tempest 28.57; Pastime 25.
Yesterday’s race resulted as follows:—Popeye (A. Kroening, scr), 2hr 55min, 1; Salome (G. Messenger, scr), 2hr 55min Bsec, 2; Idle Hour (R. Blacktopp, 45sec), 2hr 55min 54sec, 3. The junior Idealong championship for the Messenger-Dixon Cup was sailed on Saturday afternoon. The result was as follows:—
Lahoma (M. McGeady), Ihr. 1; Marilyn (R. Messenger), Ihr lmin Isec, 2; J‘. Hughes (Idle Hour) Ihr lmin 26sec, 3. The Messenger Memorial Cup for juniors was won by J. Hughes, in Idle Hour. Hughes won three races and was second in another in four starts and was unbeatable on points.
