OBITUARY

Mrs Ellen Smith The death occurred yesterday mo r . n “ ing at the Grey Hospital, after a briet illness, of Mrs Ellen Smith, of Paroa. Born in Lannarkshire. Scotland, 42 years ago, she came to New Zealand as a young woman, and was married at Greymouth. She had since resided with her husband and family at Paroa. Mrs Smith is survived by her husband and two daughters, Misses Ellen and Gwen (Paroa) and one sister m Scotland. The funeral will take place at the Karoro cemetery tomorrow morning, following Requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church. Mrs Ida Brown The death of Mrs Ida Roberta Brown, one of the first white children born on the West Coast, has occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs K. Jessop, Tinakori road, Wellington. She was the widow of Mr Charles Henry Brown who predeceased her 34 years ago. Born at Greymouth, 82 years ago, Mrs Brown resided in Blaketown for many years. She became suddenly ill during a visit to Wellington. Her early years were spent at Ahaura, No Town and Ngahere. She is survived by three sons. Charles and Gus (Blaketown), and William (Wellington), and two daughters, Mesdames K. Jessop (Wellington) and F. Emmerson (Christchurch). The funeral takes place at Karoro cemetery on Wednesday morning following a service at the Church of Christ. Mr John Holmes The death occurred at his residence. Tui street, Kumara, this morning of Mr John William Holmes, aged 68 years. Mr Holmes was born in Kumara and had been engaged in gold mining in the district for most of his life. He is survived by his wife, also one son, John, and one daughter, Mrs G. Ryan (all of Kumara). The funeral will take place at the Kumara cemetery tomorrow afternoon. Mrs Christina McQueen The death occurred on Saturday at Lower Hutt of Mrs Christina Rose McQueen a former Greymouth resident, aged 85. She was predeceased some years ago by her husband, Mr Charles McQueen, who, for many years, was n charge of the municipal pumping station at Omoto. Mrs McQueen, who was a wellmown singer and later a teacher of singing, at Greymouth, is survived by swo daughters. Barbara (Wellington) uad Mrs Ellis (Dunedn), and two sons, John and Eric (Wellington). < Mr Janies Reiha The death occurred on Saturday at 3t Albans, Christchurch, of a former resident of Kumara, .Mr James Edward Seiha, aged 65. Mi- Reiha, who had 'aad a lengthy illness, had resided for some years in Christchurch. Besides lis wife, he leaves two daughters, and me son, all of Christchurch.
