Australian Cyclists
The Australian cyclists, S. Patterson and K. Reynolds, finished their tour of New Zealand on a high note by their domination of the Auckland centre carnival held in their honour at the Western Springs stadium. Patterson demonstrated his superior class by beating the national half-mile grass track champion, E. L. G. Hughes, by a length, after being two lengths behind with 200 yards to go. In a special tandem paced mile, Patterson recorded his best time of the tour with figures of 12.6 sec for the final 220 yards. In the five miles race, Patterson had to retire because of a juncture, his first of the tour; and Reynolds, who had previously finished second to Patterson, went on to win.—(P.A.)
