WOMEN’S MARCHING HOKITIKA AND COBDEN TO REPRESENT COAST
The West Coast will be represented at the New Zealand marching championships, to be held at Wellington next month, by the Hokitika and Cobden teams. Formed this year, these two teams have shown considerable improvement, and in a special contest held at Rugby Park on Saturday, beat seven other teams to win the representative'honours. Hokitika won the competition with 2911- points, and was awarded tne Greyrnouth Marching Association s Cup while Cobden won the Truman Shield for the Greyrnouth championship. Cobden’s total was 290 j. Two teams tied for third place with a total of 288. These were Blaketown and Combined Business Girls. Next were Waiora with 28d 2 , Owen’s 2741, Greyrnouth Grenadiers and Mawhera Midgies 274, and Reefton 2701. , The leaders of the Hokitika and Owen’s teams, Misses H. Ross and B. Frost respectively, tied for the leaders’ trophy with 53 points. One point behind were Misses J. Brown (Mawhera Midgies) and N. Patterson (Cobden). Cobden won the award for its costume, receiving 90 out of a possible 100 points. Waiora with 88 was second and Blaketown 831 third.. A cup for' the trainer of the winning team- was awarded to Mr H. Mason, of Hokitika.
