(P.A.) HAWERA, Feb. 27. The first day’s racing of the Egmont summer meeting was held at Hower a yesterday in fine weather. The course was in excellent order. The totalisator handled £43,537, compared with £53,822 on the corresponding day last year. J. Kendall was suspended for a month for his careless riding of Snowboy in the Tokaora Handicap. SAN DOMENICO IN BRILLIANT FORM AT CAULFIELD
MELBOURNE, February 27.
Although he jumped oft' on the wrong' foot and was last into the straight, the Sydney gelding, San Domenico, gave one of the finest exhibitions of galloping ever seen at Caulfield when he won the Oakleigh Plate by two lengths. He broke the Australian and New Zealand five-and-a-half-furlong record of 1.41. established 12 years ago by Aurie’s Star by a quarter of a second. San Domenico swerved near the turn into the straight, but raced away to beat two other Sydney horses, Count Cosmo and Filipino. Plans are being made to send San Domenico to America if he holds his form during the next six months. He is now liable tor a penalty up to 101 b for the Newmarket Handicap and 201 b for the Futurity Stakes. The New Zealand gelding, Ellerslie, ran fifth. Results: —
