Single Direct captivated a crowd of 38.000 at Wayville on Saturday night, when, on a rain-soaked track, he paced faultlessly and'won his division without being extended. Starting from 36 yards behind, he struck the front in the second lap and he never afterwards looked like being headed over the two miles. His mile rate was 2.l4.7—exceptionally good in heavy going. He will run again on Wednesday night, and indications are that he will go close to winning the championship. He is now ahead on points which show Single Direct 10, Bandbox 8, Recovered, Belgrave 6. Amorous did not appreciate the two-mile distance and he was beaten a long way from home. Hatteras showed vast improvement in his division, scoring an all-the-way win. The West Australian representative, Lila’s Walla, had the ill-luck to have a wheel buckled. Bandbox looked like winning the third heat in the last lap, but the distance found her out. She missed a placing. The West Australian, Plunderer, showed much better stamina.

Tycoon was responsible for a sensational run in winning the Pacing Derby. Left 130 yards, Tycoon went at a terrific rate and got up in the last stride to beat Amazing by a.head. Tycoon’s mile rate was 2min 17.6 sec. record time for the race.
