MANY GREY SPORTS TEAMS TRAVEL IN DISTRICT TODAY

Sports teams today engaged in considerable inter-district travelling, the first possible for three weeks, as wet weather caused numerous postponements on the previous two week-ends.

The principal sports fixture is the West Coast lawn tennis championships, which commenced this morniftg. Tennis players from a number oF districts, including Hokitika, which will be represented by a strong contingent, travelled ,to Greymouth this morning for the tourney. The West Coast Women.’s Marching Association’s contest at Rugby Park,. Greymouth, this afternoon has also attracted many visitors to the town, including teams from Reefton and Hokitika.

A representative cricket team from Greymouth travelled to Hokitika today to play Westland lor the Barlow Cup, while a Westland junior team travelled to Greymouth for the Ogilvie Shield match. These matches were postponed from earlier _ this month. A Hokitika women’s cricket team also travelled as far north as Camerons for a club match today. There were many travellers from the Grey district to the Ikamatua sports today, axemen, particularly, being catered for there. A team of West Coast cyclists has also .left to compete today at Nelson, where the New Zealand junior championships are being held, and Greymouth and Hokitika athletes are today competing in the Canterbury senior championships at Christchurch. Bowlers are also numbered among the sportsmen travelling this weekend, a team representing the Karoro Club leaving for Hokitika for matches against the home club. At the West Coast croquet championships at Greymouth, visitors from Westport, Christchurch, and Nelson are competing.
