THEFTS INCREASE IN BRITAIN
LONDON, October 15. Statistics published by the Home Office disclose that theft is increasing in England and Wales, and that the number of theft convictions is considerably more than before the war. Fifty-nine per cent, of the thieves convicted last year were adults; Ja per cent were youths and girls under H; and 12 per cent- were aged from 17 to 21 - . ■ There was an increase in • the known cases of murder compared with the general average for the three years before the war. The number of convictions for black market offences decreased by nearly 20,000 compared with 1946.
