JUGOSLAVS IN AUSTRALIA WARNED
(Rec. 11.10 a.m.) . .CANBERRA, This Day. A warning to Jugoslav nationals, and British subjects of Jugoslav origin now in Australia, not to return to Jugoslavia has been issued by the Minister of Immigration, Mr Calwell. Mr Calwell said a Jugoslav ship was due to arrive in Australia shortly and he anticipated a repetition of the “Return to Jugoslavia” drive early this year. He warned Jugoslavs in Australia that they would be deeply disappointed if they heeded the importunings of certain agents, who exerted pressure on Jugoslavs to return to their native country. Those who had returned had been bitterly disillusioned by condition in Jugoslavia and the treatment they received. They had found food scarce and wages low, and they had to work where directed by the Government. They had found out too late that the information given by Jugoslav agents was grossly and intentionally misleading. Many had attempted to return to Australia, but were not allowed to leave Jugoslavia.
