EIRE NEGOTIATES TREATY WITH UNITED STATES
(Rec. 11.10 a.m.) DUBLIN, October 15. The Department of External Affairs announced that negotiations have been resumed for a treaty of friendship, commerce and nagivation between the United States and Eire. It would be the most comprehensive of its kind Eire has undertaken with any nation. The treaty aims at a long-term contractual basis for economic relations between the two countries and will give Eireann ships entering American ports most favoured nation treatment, including a reduction of dues. American ships will receive similar privileges in Eireann ports. The treaty is also expected to facilitate the operation of the Marshall Aid Plan, which is on a loan basis, to Eire.
