NEW GOVERNOR OF BANK OF ENGLAND
(Reed. 9 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. Lord Catto, Governor of the Bank of England, will resign on February 28 next year, in conformity with the bank’s rule that directors should retire at 70. His successor will be the Deputy-Governor (Mr C. F. Cobbold). Mr D. G. M. Bernard will succeed Mr Cobbold as DepUty-GOVer-Mr Cobbold, who is 44, is the youngest Governor since 1847, when Mr William Robinson was appointed at the age of 43.
