Horror Film Advertising
In the House of Representatives yesterday, at question time, Dr A. M. Finlay gave notice to ask the Minister of internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, if his attention had been drawn .to the manner in which a film, now screening in Wellington, was being advertised. The following inducements were held out to attract patrons: “If you can take it tough, this is your show—policemen killed—women beaten up”; and finally: “What 'Brighton Rock’ promised this film delivers!” Dr Finlay asked the Minister to explain how the granting of a permit to exhibit this film could be reconciled with the refusal of a permit tb “Brighton Rock.” Had the film censor approved this advertisement? —(P.A.)
